Led by nidderdale visual arts, children at three local schools designed celebration banners to promote the all day event ‘ Muslympics’.
Devised by Stephen Price from Harrogate Music Centre, The Muslympics project gave Nidderdale a one day unique music focus in celebration of both the Jubilee year and the Olympics (hence the name). It brought together as many youth/community bands as possible to play both as separate bands and in unison with other bands.
About 500 young people who play in a variety of orchestral, wind and brass bands came together in one venue for a grand musical day. Also participating were Nidderdale local choirs, the newly formed Community Orchestra, the newly formed Nidderdale ‘Bridge’ wind band (primary school age group) and the ‘after school’ small rock bands.
The banners for the event were inspired by the work of Kandinsky and students worked whilst listening to contrasting pieces of music.
